Seven Wonders Case Study
Could Tactica deliver
one of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s most successful social media
websites in just a few days?
The ChallengeIt was April 2007 when CBC Television’s The National in conjunction with CBC Radio’s Sounds Like Canada decided to launch a project they knew would have huge impact with their respective audiences. They planned for great programming on radio and TV – but they hadn’t planned for the web component. CBC’s internal web developers were saying it simply couldn’t be done in the time given. A producer remembered that Tactica had completed several successful projects for the CBC. Could Tactica’s team design and program a website, help develop content, implement online voting, liaise with a variety of producers with competing demands, and get the entire project up and running within days? Tactica’s response – of course.
The SolutionTactica quickly and expertly identified what was attainable given incredibly tight deadlines. Six strong-minded journalists were driving the process at the CBC, all with very different ideas of what exactly the web portion of the project should look like. Tactica quickly facilitated consensus, and helped develop the overall plan and began development. Communication lines within such a large organization are often difficult to navigate, but Tactica was able to cut through the layers and accessed exactly what was needed to get the project on track. Online voting software was secured, and contingency plans put into place when it became obvious that this project would generate more online audience participation than CBC had ever experienced. Kevin and his team were available at any hour of the day, ready to provide answers as the project grew exponentially. Ultimately, Tactica provided a full slate of services including:
• Flawless audio and video streaming
• The facilitation of photo galleries
• Complete web design & Flash animation
• Programming
• Project management
The ResultsThe Seven Wonders of Canada website generated the most response in CBC’s history, with over 6,000,000 visits. The site is extremely interactive and loaded with information that is a true sensory experience. Users have access to informative text, extensive audio and video as well as photo galleries. From the CBC’s perspective, the site became an equal programming partner. This is currently a major goal of the Corporation as it strives to be a truly tri-medial service. The site provides a platform for a huge range of additional content that is informing the public and will, in addition, be used as a tool for teachers across the country.
Our Client Said...
"In terms of results, you simply can’t do any better than this."
Paddi-Anne Crossin, Manager CBC.ca
"Tactica did an absolutely spectacular job. We had no idea what we were doing when it came to the web component of this project. Kevin listened to us, figured out what we needed and inspired huge confidence in us that he could make it happen...and he did, on time and on budget to boot! So many people told us this couldn’t be done and Tactica proved them wrong. What a beautiful, rich and incredibly professional site we have as a result."
