One Ocean Interactive: Cross-platform digital media produced with Merit Motion Pictures & CBC

Can interactive digital media producers successfully collaborate with traditional media producers to create a cross-platform product that exceeds the sum of its parts?

Tactica is poised to prove just that with the launch of One Ocean Interactive, a cross-platform digital interactive project supporting an HD documentary series produced by Merit Motion Pictures and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for The Nature of Things. The project is set for launch on March 4th, 2010 and is supported by the Canadian Television Fund, Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund, the Government of Manitoba - Manitoba Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit.

The website’s purpose is to make the One Ocean brand cross-platform, open up new licensing opportunities, promote the television series, drive traffic to broadcaster websites, bolster DVD sales, inform people of the global issues facing our ocean and challenge them to affect positive change. To accomplish this objective the site leverages powerful interactive platforms including Google Earth, Facebook, and the Unity 3D game engine.

A Rich Interactive User Experience

The site is a rich hub of interactive tools, games, user generated content, video and audio podcasts enabled for viral distribution and integrated with social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Flickr.

The Biosphere

Create your own marine reserve in magnificent 3D Game environments teaming with sea life. Play casual games and explore landscapes from deep ocean trenches to colorful coral reefs and earn eco-points for customizing your character and your ecosystem. Play on the website or with your friends on Facebook.

The feature dramatically increases brand engagement by tapping into the popularity of casual games played within social networks.

Ocean Explorer

Partnering with Google, One Ocean’s audio, video and tour content will receive worldwide brand exposure as it’s included in the exclusive Explore the Ocean layer with National Geographic, the BBC, and World Wildlife federation.

You’ll have access to unique One Ocean content using Google Earth’s satellite and sonar imagery and take guided tours across the ocean. Share discoveries from your own voyage, create tours, and collaborate with friends to uncover the ocean’s mysteries and keys to its prosperity. Enter your contributions in our contest and you could have your content featured in Google Earth.

The Time Machine

Discover the fascinating variety of deep-sea life throughout the past in an interactive timeline. View visually rich 3D renderings of prehistoric life and take an interactive video journey under the surface of a prehistoric ocean.

Discover how humans first began exploring the undersea world, and the technological advancements we’ve taken to understand the ocean’s mysteries. Experience interactive simulations of historic dives and browse detailed 3D submersible vehicles from ocean exploration history.

The One Ocean Pledge

The One Ocean pledge empowers individuals to take action on the series’ message of Ocean sustainability. You’ll learn how you can take action to undo the damage already done to Earth’s oceans. Create groups and invite friends to join the pledge through Facebook.

The pledge helps promote One Ocean to a wider audience through partnerships with the Canadian Wildlife Federation, David Suzuki Foundation, and Living Ocean Society. Facebook integration allows the pledge to spread virally through the world’s most popular social network.
